Very few places can compare to the beauty seen all around this country, both the scenery and the towns and cities. I had the opportunity to join a group trip around this amazing country in January 2022, visiting places like Maaloula, Aleppo, Homs and Damascus.
This was my first trip to a country most governments strongly advise against travelling to. And I guess that was the main reason I found it an extremely exciting opportunity to see places very few others living in my part of the world had seen. As a hobby photographer and passionate traveller that is the perfect combination!
When driving around this country there are unfortunately endless signs of the civil war that started in 2011. Many areas of the major cities are still in ruins several years after the fighting ended. But there are also many places that are intact, where you get a reminder of the amazing beauty and history of this country!
WIth the recent developments in the political situation in Syria there is hope for a better future. I definitely hope to return one day and see the country being built back up to how it should be!
